I've never tried making ice cream but I'm much more comfortable making my own. It even includes a recipe booklet with different recipes for ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and ice cream. I find they are often too sweet and contain half the sugar, especially since fruit and other additives add their own amount of sugar. Rock salt as required by more traditional machines. However, it does not freeze ice. I've found that to get a hard ice cream that goes really well with waffles, I have to let it run for 25 minutes, then scrape off the ice and pop it in a container in the freezer for at least five hours. Otherwise, ice cream straight out of the machine works better for a smoothie consistency, even after 25 minutes. Garbage. I like that I can plug it in and go and that it's easy to clean. And that's enough for six modest servings.
