Other reviews didn't seem to help. I seem to have read a bunch of AA and it's THREE A (AAA) batteries, 3 pack. It will NOT light up in the light, so you need to put it in the dark. which threw me for a second until it dawned on me they told me he wasn't going to work in the light. Click the button and it will turn red or pink, hold the button and it will start to "scroll" through the colors, release the button and click on the color you want, click the button again to set that color. Anyway, the button is all it has and it got me about 15 feet up (that's the bottom of my stairs and not next to the toilet) so I moved it so the tub partially blocked it and it lit up when we rush in the door. Basically, you have to understand that you have to do some experiments with it, but it works well, it just doesn't come with many instructions.
