Schlage is the best door latch
This is a very well made door latch with a solid internal mechanism. It is well designed and well made. You may have to wiggle it a bit to get the two separate halves to come together, but once you've done that you can insert the hardware and tighten. There are other less expensive door hardware manufacturers out there, but Schlage is the best of the best brands.
