I bought a couple of these drives for a couple of new builds. They seemed to work properly at first, but as I downloaded larger and larger files, the drives started to slow down. I mean crawl. Something was wrong with two hard drives. So I started looking for problems. I make sure the firmware is up to date, my chipset drivers are up to date as well. I even pulled out one of the drives, plugged it into the Intel based system and reinstalled windows to see if the problem related to AMD. The same thing happened. Then I discovered the problem. PUSH AND GEAR. Western Digital has replaced quality parts with very cheap ones, completely changing the nature of this drive. As I write this review, you can google the Western Digital Bait And Switch SN550 and read for yourself what they did. It's too late for me to return these mangled discs, but if you haven't bought them yet, don't. Baiting and changing components is akin to false advertising. It's like paying full price for a beautiful Tesla, only to get a copy of an unnamed Chinese electric vehicle branded Tesla instead. It looks good but is much inferior in quality and features. The same with WD SN550. Looks great but falls short.
