I bought a can of Home Depot aerosol lube that sat in a display case just outside the garage door openers. Since my screw driven door opener is over ten years old I sprayed this stuff liberally. Black grease ROLLED out of the lead screw and the housing surrounding it. I've been cleaning for a week now. The instructions for the spray said it was intended for greasing such drives, but the grinding that followed became progressively worse. Without a doubt, Home Depot will sell more bottle openers if others do what I do. Given the awful noise, I did a little research on what I should have done first. I ordered this lube and followed the instructions last night. MAGIC. The door sounds better than ever and I only used one of the small tubes after cleaning more of the old black grease from the screw drive area. Chaotic? Sure, but it's not hard to do. With one hand I squeezed the product out of the tube and with the finger of the other hand I immediately squeezed the lube into the screwdriver. Very inexpensive repair.
