Opened and smelled of material/manufacturing. Expose to sun and wind for a week. It also smelled very strong. Washed with soapy water. Maybe it helped reduce the smell a bit. Soak in plenty of unscented detergent for 24 hours, rinse and soak in water for 24 hours, then dry in the sun and wind for hours. Eventually the odor level was low enough to be usable. Too much time and effort deodorizing a product to use. I cannot recommend this mouse pad. No odor problem with 2 Aukey mouse pads.
