I really wanted to like this device after reading the reviews. I bought it for hiking to power both AA batteries that my GPS uses and the iPhone 3GS that I carry with me for music and communication. my trip to Yosemite. I used more powerful 2400mW batteries. I tried charging my iPhone the first night and the iPhone complained it was an incompatible charger. However, it appeared to be powering the phone (the power connector, not the lightning bolt icon on the battery) so I left it plugged in so when calling it would use the AA battery and not the iPhone battery. I used it several times for 2 more days. When I got back to my car, my iPhone, which was dead at the time, was no longer charging. Didn't charge at home either. A trip to the Apple store confirmed that the iPhone is not working, something has burned out in the charging circuits. I just went out of warranty and need to buy a new phone. I have to assume it was an AA charger. The phone did not get wet or bumped. I haven't tried it with a new phone yet. I won't risk it again. 3, however, starts as usual for normal AA loading. Also note that you MUST put batteries in to charge your USB device. It is not powered directly from the panels via USB.
