Full Disclosure. I bought it and sent it back a few days later. does not require a computer. Scanning slides is fairly quick and easy to use, although matching your slide to the scanner's backlight may take some practice. The on-screen menu is intuitive and fairly quick if you practice for a minute or two. If you need to scan 35mm slides and don't need additional tweaks like color correction, contrast adjustment, scratch removal, etc., this product is perfect. According to the product description, it is not so well suited for film negatives. No cleaning software means you get what you get. Color reproduction and sharpness are not the same as slides. Deformity - The fixtures used to feed the scanned object are bizarre. Attaching the slide is fairly easy and the slides slide through easily, although as mentioned, aligning the slides under the scanner can take some work. The mounts for the negatives - single or striped - are terrible. Negatives do not load cleanly and do not slide easily. Attempting to press the negative film will cause the film to warp and damage the edges. The only way to position the negative correctly is to remove the jig, straighten an image, and then put it back into the scanner. This process is then repeated each time for each frame for each stripe. In addition, the negative mounts for curled film (which happens with age) are completely useless and do not work at all with 110 film strips. Conclusion - used for slides - good. Used for something else - not that good.
