Our gerbils live about 3 weeks and we have tried different habitats. The small starter cage from the pet store was too small and too dirty because the little ones had dug up the bedding and scattered it all over the room. Floor. It drove me crazy They also gnawed away the plastic ramps. We then tried 2 different tall plastic tanks with a piece of mesh on top. That didn't sit well with us either, as we couldn't interact with the gerbils at all. They are BIG jumpers. So if we removed the screen to interact with them, they would jump right out of the trash can, which was the tallest tank we could find! So this product was the solution and we are so happy with it. . I found a 10 gallon aquarium at the grocery store for only $10. Great offer. I agree, small platforms are a bit tricky to install and I had to do a bit of work to get them working properly, but they're still worth the money. Mine seems very sturdy and I don't feel the need for zip ties like other users. The little blue plate and blue wheel are from another cage we had. I was happy to see that the wheel would also work with this cage.
