We purchased two of these shade cloths to use as an emergency sun block for a 300 gallon above ground goldfish pond. The fish were an unexpected rescue from a repo home and had to be removed by the end of the day we’d found them. They were in a swimming pool of sludge water. We didn’t have the luxury of building a "normal” pond. Their emergency habitat was a 300 gallon cattle trough we placed under an old awning with a lattice roof. The cloth is lightweight and shades enough direct sunlight to hold the water at 80 degrees or below on a 94 degree day. In addition, the first day of use, 8 horseflies flew into the cloth and were trapped in the netting. Fish Food. Now that the orphaned fish are settled into their lives as well kept pets, because of the shade cloth we’ve added hanging plants and potted tropical plants to decorate their habitat.
