It actually works very well. I've had it for maybe a few weeks and so far it seems to be doing its job well. However, you really need to understand how to work with it properly to get the best results. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. It works best when the humidity is low, but when it works, it gradually increases the humidity in the room.2. It doesn't cool the room like an air conditioner, but if you have ice around it will cool like an air conditioner as long as it's using the ice. It actually gets to the point where you have to turn it off so the room isn't too cool, but not when it's just running on water.3. The reservoir contains a lot of water. I used a 6 gallon plastic water bottle and a battery operated water pump. This makes filling very easy. If not, you will need a 2 gallon container to fill it up.4. One thing I don't like is that you can smell a slight odor in the air. I don't think it's the device itself, it's the water as it adds moisture to the air. I'm going to try one of these aromatherapy diffusers but it won't arrive until today. Hopefully this will help the air smell fresh. The device works both with an open and without a window. I do both because there is fresh air circulating outside. However, when the window is closed, the humidity increases more quickly, which can sometimes lead to a more comfortable feeling in a normally dry room. All in all it works great. There's just a learning curve to understanding what it will and won't do, as well as how to set it up. Would definitely recommend. :-)
