Absolutely necessary for large tires
So far so good, I mounted on a 2017 Tundra with 35x12.5 tires, easy to mount, changed the tire size a few times to get an mph at 70 mph, would definitely recommend the Leaving wire connected and I even taped it in the box so it doesn't pull out will program it as if it were, you have to pull the cluster back out to plug it back in, with the wire left in it you can fine-tune or change at any time time.
