After researching my modem rental waiver, I found that this DPC3000 model is Mediacom's most widely available Docsis 3.0 modem and has fairly broad support and one for 40 US -dollar used by Amazon decided to jump on it. How to swap modems on mediacom When you connect a new modem, it may take a bit of persuasion and you might encounter invalid security issues. However, certificates that you should bypass or ignore will eventually land you on the mediacom activation page. Click on Continue. Enter your billing account number in the appropriate field and the last 9 digits of your account number in the Registration Code field. On the next page, click Exchange and enter 9999 in the last field. The modem should reboot and when it comes back online it's fast as always and mine was running the latest Mediacom firmware (still from 2009 but still the latest).
