Does not connect FireWire devices

Tried to connect two old external hard drives (bought in the mid 2000's) to my new M1 iMac - an old Lacie and an old Acomdata. Neither one nor the other was recognized. Tested the firewire port on an old iBook G4 and recognized the drives so the particular adapter wasn't working, no fault of the hard drives.

Compatible with USB 1.1 and 2.0. plug and play No software required.
