This is one of the most practical kitchen utensils. I use it to lift anything out of liquid on the stovetop or in a deep fryer: boiled eggs, hash browns, fried fish, french fries, tofu, small noodles (like farfalle), and even tea bags when making a gallon of iced tea. Bamboo The handle is 10" long, angled towards the basket and firmly attached so it is safe to use with hot liquids. The wire basket has larger holes than a strainer or skimmer so it empties immediately. I have a 5 inch spreader and it suits all my needs adequately. A 7 inch spider would be too big for some of the smaller pans. It's definitely better than using a slotted spoon. It's safe and effective.
