Review on D-Link Wi-Fi Water Leak Sensor and Alarm Starter Kit: Ultimate Whole Home Protection with App Notification, AC Powered, No Hub Required by Joe Meyer

It works. I hope I never need it.

I got this kit to keep an eye on my laundry where a leak is more likely and as a bonus I have the ability to monitor another location (my main bathroom). Setup is surprisingly easy. The instructions could have been a bit more detailed but I was able to get everything working with the main unit plugged in and the sensor hanging off the floor. I love that they give you self-adhesive cord clips to keep them tidy. The included add-on box is even easier to install (and easier to place and use in my opinion, although you'll need to replace the included batteries at some point). The app guides you through the entire process and generally works very well (at least on Android). The installation process takes you through a test that worked great. Then I ran more tests and the V2 device works fine even when idle (for an add-on). I also tested the main box/hub and it works fine too. The sensor is pretty loud (from the hub no matter where it was detected) and the app would notify me every time water was detected, including location. Name your devices well so you know where the leak is. In addition, you can summon an emergency contact and in the event of a leak (like a homeowner or a neighbor when you're out of town, etc.) press 1 button.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Minor issues
