When I first started learning to crochet (still learning so can't say I'm done) I have different brands of crochet hooks used. The pointed tip and built-in head of Susan Bates hooks made a huge difference for me - I almost gave up using hesitantly curved hooks that wouldn't push through a stitch I'd overtightened (yarn tension can be an issue initially be). or hold the yarn while trying to put it on. I've read that the crochet brand you prefer depends on how you crochet, but they've improved my crochet skills a lot - I've almost given up using any other brand. After purchasing this particular set, I like the Susan Bates hooks even more. My original set was a smaller metal one, but I really like the big plastic hooks. They're lightweight, and with chunky yarn and a big hook, you can make BIG progress in a short amount of time. I don't keep them in a plastic bag as they don't look like they would wear well, but they are engraved with millimeters and a letter size on the bottom of the handle so you don't have to worry about forgetting which hook size . They have.
