This trim (along with a matching set of door handle trims) really improves the look of the slightly scratched black plastic in my 2020 Mazda 3. I bought mine with only 4,000 miles on it and while it was in good condition it was the middle one Area of "switching frame" already badly scratched. This plate is made from a surprisingly heavy and durable stamped metal. Glues are very aggressive, so you only have one chance. Check the fit first to get an idea of how it sits (very good actually, so get it right!). I didn't find it necessary to disassemble the console, but if you find it easy, alignment will be very simple. Although these plates are metal, the top surface appears to be covered with another clear finish. It can probably still be scratched, but not as badly as the piano's original black finish, and the matte finish helps cover up any imperfections. I also like that the darker matte finish isn't so noticeable that it screams "aftermarket". Another note: the adhesive is applied in several narrow bands around the perimeter of the panel rather than in one continuous piece, similar to a gasket. If you ever spilled liquid in this area, you would have to pry it up to fully clean underneath. This will almost certainly destroy the panel. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.
