I recently had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists. After most of the swelling has gone (elastic compression tubes, cold compresses), it's more comfortable to stabilize my wrists: there isn't too much twisting, twisting or radial movement now. Therefore, these braces continue to help reduce those moments when the sharp pain of a wrong twist or turn captures your undivided attention. I like the shorter design. Recovery after CT surgery is uncomfortable and tedious: it takes some time for the exercises on the PT slide to take effect. These suspenders will get you through the day and give you enough dexterity for writing, typing and driving. (I use the ACE Night Wrist Sleep Support for sleeping.) The top and bottom aluminum inserts are removable so the braces are washable. In fact, my left wrist needs more support than my right, so I removed the inserts entirely from my right brace. I like their versatility. The only downside to these braces is that they attach with velcro. This creates a slight abrasion on the outside of the hand south of the little knuckle. It doesn't matter, but it's a weak point in the design. So you know... . In the beginning, putting on these things is a bit uncomfortable. They are made of a very porous rough material that I call a velcro magnet. Velcro wants to grab what it can. After a few turns on and off it gets easier.
