I live in an apartment in Southern California. The water here is disgusting, to say the least. They fill it with so much junk that they want water like chlorine and fluoride to be an odd brownish color when it comes out of the tap. Needless to say we don't drink water. Although we can't drink the water that comes out of the kitchen and bathroom faucets, we were looking for a way to wash our hands and clean the crisp pan in the microwave without constantly using bottled water. We've tried Brita and Pur faucet filters, but neither improved water quality. We then decided to try the Culligan faucet filter. It's plastic and not the best quality (you have to change the block every year) but the filters used improve the water quality so much that it's now transparent. Although we still don't drink water due to allergies, we can use our sinks again. The initial system costs about $30 and includes a $17 filter. So the Culligan system is really affordable if you are looking for a faucet filtration system. No special tools are required for installation either, although we did purchase a metal adapter for our sink which came for less than $5. The filters themselves are difficult to screw in and out of the filter housing. When changing the filter for the first time, the filter broke into several pieces and didn't want to come out of the housing. Turns out we turned it the wrong way and it really tightened inside the case. Once we figured out which way to turn the filter to remove it, we taped an arrow on the filter housing and we were out of it. broken filters After installation, we run the filter for 5 minutes to allow the water to stabilize and the filter to work. This makes the water clear, not brownish. Heating hot water with this filter and we have been doing this since September 2017 when we first used Culligan systems on our faucets. We have two of these, one for the bathroom faucet and one for the kitchen faucet. Using a hot water filter will shorten the life of the filter. We have to change the filter once a month, otherwise the water will become very discolored in about five weeks. We know it would last longer if we didn't use it for hot water, but hot water is essential in both the kitchen and bathroom. They claim the filter lasts 200 gallons or two months, whichever comes first. How bad your water is will shorten the life of the filter depending on how much dirt the filter is holding. If, like us, you have really bad water, you can expect a monthly filter change. This filter does not filter out fluoride, none of these types of filters. I want them to do this because I am allergic to fluoride. This traps large particles and I feel like it reduces the fluoride because I no longer feel itchy from the fluoride in the water when I wash my hands. Lead, Class 1 labeled particulate matter (0/5-1 microns) and turbidity, bad taste and smell. In our case, this also helps with badly colored water. This filter is also ANSI 42 compliant, meaning it's certified to remove most aesthetic contaminants, including chlorine, taste and odor. In addition, it is ANSI 53 certified, which means that it can absorb and filter, and impurities stick to the pores of the filter. In terms of taste, I am sure that this filter will improve the taste of the water in our house. However, due to a fluoride allergy and the fact that the city is adding fluoride to our water, we do not drink this water or brush our teeth with it. It really gets rid of the chlorine smell and I don't have the slimy skin and hair I used to have. If you're looking for an easy way to filter your dishwater, the Culligan system is for you. We also have their filter shower head and we love it. Culligan filters are the cream of the crop, and while they need to be replaced often, they're definitely worth the price.
