FINALLY the right coarse sand for soil mixtures!

This is the only sand I can find online that is suitable for filling and draining your potting soil. This is less than pumice and more than regular sand (probably 0.75-2mm, but a general guess). The bag is quite small but the sand is heavy so I wasn't disappointed. Which seller offers a larger size? But if you've been looking for real coarse sand for your homemade potting soil, then this is the size you need! You can stop looking now (unless you need a ton, haha). To clarify, adding typical beach-sized sand or found sand adds weight to your soil, but because it's the size of peat moss and coir base, it doesn't. t improve ventilation and drainage. If you're trying to achieve this, you'll need some coarser sand. Think about it like this. If you fill the jar with all particles of the same size, such as B. fine sand, and bad water. Then see how long it takes for that water to "drain" through the sand and land on the ground. Now imagine placing small stones in the same vessel. They don't compact and so the water has a lot of air pockets and falls almost straight to the bottom. This results in coarse-grained sand; Adds air pockets for oxygen exchange (aeration) and drainage (prevention of root rot). Of course, apart from the above hypothesis, other ingredients (fiber, peat, etc.) also hold the required moisture, so in potting soils we look for a balance between retention and drainage. Too much of either is bad (although in my opinion too much drainage is easier than too much water - just water/fertilize more or add some grated coconut). I'll try to add pictures later when I'm on my personal laptop. potting soil that we want
