Headphone jack problem

While my Iphone 6S Plus fits perfectly in the case and all the holes on the phone line up with the case, the headphone slot in the case is too narrow to connect Apple headphones. The connector does not go all the way through the case slot to ensure a good connection. To use the headphones, you must remove the case. I assume a slot could be drilled in the hull, but I'm not sure what long-term impact this would have on the integrity of the hull.
