This monitor is exactly what I needed. My baby sleeps with the fan on with white noise. I needed something that would pick up her voice over the fan noise. This monitor does just that. I can hear the constant hum of the fan through the monitor (which is to be expected), but I can hear it making even the slightest noise. Most monitors are not sensitive enough for this. The volume can vary from very quiet to very loud. Many newer monitors are not loud enough. I need it loud so I can hear it washing dishes, showering and even turning on the vacuum. The range is also large. I can walk around the neighborhood to borrow (with my monitor) and the sound is great (we also have 90ft wide lots). The base (child block) has a soft blue glow that acts as a very soft night light. The parent unit also has a soft blue glow that flickers with noise. Because the fan is running, the light flickers constantly. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't see it when my eyes are closed so it doesn't disturb my sleep. Even if it is, all you have to do is move it away from you. The sound is so good that you can still hear it without any problems.
