Review on 🎨 Makin's USA Clay Air for Crafts - White, 120gm: A Must-Have for Creative Projects by Carla Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Suitable for both art and children's projects.

The bag of Makins Air Dry Clay I received contained fresh material that was well protected from exposure to air. The clay has a soft, slightly stretchy feel right out of the box and requires little to no conditioning. Kneading is really only needed to mix the colors and requires much less manual force than traditional heat-set polymer clays. Has no unpleasant smell. Mackins sticks well to itself when kneading and shaping, but does not stick to hands and tools. Although it is quite elastic, it holds the surface structure well. If the clay begins to dry while you are working, sprinkle water on the clay or your fingers to restore it to its original condition. Don't wear fluffy sweaters when working with clay - the clay is soft enough to pick up fluff, and the white color lets you show off any little dirt or debris. Makin's Air Dry Clay can also be diluted with water to make paste and glue. Consistency so it can be used to fill gaps or even paint another surface. Instructions are at the bottom of this page from the Makins website: [.] Color bright white, opaque when wet. Once dry it is slightly less bright (more like light ivory) and still opaque with a matte finish. I didn't notice any cracks or cracks on the surface. When dry it shrinks about 10%, but for my project the shrinkage was even. Dried clay is hard but still slightly flexible, making the pieces more durable. Even thin sections will bend under pressure rather than break. Makin's White doesn't interfere with the cure of platinum silicone, so it's a good choice for models you want to replicate when shrinkage isn't an issue. I haven't tried other colors yet. If you decide to seal the clay before taking the silicone mold, use clear acrylic lacquer. Do not use polyurethane spray as urethane prevents platinum silicone from curing. Dried clay can be temporarily waterproof, but it's not actually waterproof. If you immerse a completely dried object in water for an hour, you will find that the surface structure is already melting when the clay absorbs the water again. Before exposing them to wet conditions, I covered the dried parts with a coat of varnish or urethane. Overall, this is a really good modeling material, suitable for both serious work and children's projects. Update: My original order for this item came from the Revain Marketplace. the seller and although the delivery took about 10 days I received fresh soft clay. This is my second time ordering this product from Revain and received a package of hardened dried clay. As of this date (4/1/14) Revain stocks may be out of date. I would buy from another seller.
