You need the software from the Startech website update but this is the MOST RELIABLE solution due to the lack of an ethernet portal on the macbook since 2013. It counteracts the pervasive trend of forcing you to use wireless yes thank you so much for this solid ethernet device and software, the USB 3.0 converts to an ethernet port (rather than just a key making you think the ethernet is connecting - the keys are awful, Startech is AWESOME!
