This K&N 33-2936 filter is perfect for my 2009 standard Cooper S! I always go to K&N for my first "upgrade" of my car. It is a good alternative to traditional paper filters and is not as expensive as a real cold air intake system. A few notes. 1) I would say that my mini got a little scratchy from around 4000rpm. 2) I can also hear my stock exhaust valve a little better now. 3) I didn't experience a significant performance boost just by adding this drop. Sorry folks, it's just a new air filter, not nitrous oxide. Does the engine breathe better? Yes. Will this K&N complement the aftermarket exhaust? Definitive. However, if you are looking for a more aggressive sound on the intake side, be sure to go for a true open CAI element. In general I like K&N because they have long service intervals and the filter life outlasts the car. I take mine off every 10,000 miles to knock out the debris and visually inspect it. K&N includes a small card with the kit stating that the first cleaning needs to be done no earlier than 50,000 miles.
