J-hook slides into the hose and pulls out to the handle. It's small enough to slip under some hose clamps in situations where the hose clamp might be difficult to remove. I recently changed the radiator and transmission hoses in my car and this tool made the job easier. A large pry bar for very stubborn or corroded hoses can also come in handy. I've had good results with this tool combined with the largest pry bar in the Tekton 3350 set when I encountered a radiator hose that wouldn't move.
