Definitely helps with the mess
I bought two. One for each pug. Now I opted to get large bowls since their little heads are wide. I figure if they felt it was too small, they would not be comfortable while eating from them. I put their dry food in it and heaven knows the old bowls allowed a mess to happen . These are not mess free but it is a great improvement.
