Here are the "goods" and "bads" of this product.BENEFITS.1. I bought mine for $186, buyer return. Compare that to my previous two Laserjet IIs at $3600 each and six Laserject 2100s at $600 each, it was a steal. At this price, this device is a "blowout". The industry "rule of thumb" is throw it in the trash if it costs more than 50% or $93.2 to repair or replace parts. Text quality at 600 dpi was excellent, sharp and clear.3. The print speed was relatively fast - sufficient for my needs.4. The machine uses a toner bottle injection system. I could buy in bulk. So, filling the tank costs $13.20 compared to a $70 cartridge system. Unfortunately, the drum unit needs to be replaced after 20,000 runs. At a replacement cost of $70, the toner savings are negated. According to my calculations, I will still be ahead by $17.20.5. The printer is very light.6. I estimate the annual cost of laser printing at $158.40. Based on a 3 year lifespan, this is the average for my older HP laser printers. The plastic parts wear out and the rubber rollers become dry and slippery. This leads to permanent paper jams. Add to that annual shipping of $96.40 for four toner bottles and a replacement photoconductor. $13.20 per month for laser printing is cheap. This printer received PC Magazine's Editor's Choice award, one of several. The instructions are practically useless. I need to access YouTube to figure out how to open the top panel to install the photoconductor.2. Automatic online driver installation was useless. Communication was interrupted several times. As a result, drivers and updated firmware were loaded manually.3. Building is very cheap. The plastic case is very thin.4. The paper loading system is very similar to Mickey Mouse. Instead of a tray, three plastic parts are loosely connected. In addition, there is no single paper feeder. Sheets need to be loaded into the paper tray.5. While text printing is excellent, the quality of photos and graphics is below average.
