Attention, this is very messy! I wouldn't say this is for 3-5 year olds. Unless your little one is insanely strong and can break things like no other. We soaked them for the recommended time and then showed my 4 and 5 year olds how to pound. They break things all the time, so I figured that would be a no-brainer. No, it's a little more complicated than I thought. Just be ready to join in the cracking of that ice cream. Maybe doubling the exposure time will help. It's definitely a fun outdoor activity. My kids don't like getting dirty but they were happy to find the dinosaurs. Is egg shaped slime and 11 baby dinosaurs worth the money? My answer is probably not "I" but it was a good experience. So 5 stars for a good time with our kids. However, I think it should be about half the price, so I'm giving it 3 stars for value. Age wise I deducted 1 star because it seems too difficult for small children. I don't regret getting this so it's a good buy in my book. Would I do it again, probably not. It's interesting when the kids are interested. If you're looking for something fun and dirty to play with outdoors, I'd recommend checking out this article. For me it's an activity, not a toy in the egg.
