My laptop's built-in Ethernet port never worked properly. I used an ethernet pc card to plug it in and get a working ethernet connection, but I managed to break the pins in the slot and it stopped working too. But the WiFi connection has always worked fine, so as long as I'm in the hotel. with free wifi access in the room, no worries. Unfortunately, many hotels only have wired Ethernet in the rooms. So I accidentally connected to these TRENDnet networks. I thought it would be difficult to set up; not so. Instead of connecting an ethernet cable to my laptop, I connect the cable to TRENDnet. TRENDnet requires power, which can be provided with an AC adapter or - great idea - the included dedicated USB cable (although using the USB cable seems to connect my laptop to any hotel desk that has an ethernet cable - but that isn't one Problem). restriction is an option). The awesome news is that once you do this, TRENDnet shows up as a regular Wi-Fi hotspot in my laptop's wireless settings. Since I'm using this on someone else's wired network, I don't need to set any special security levels or passwords. it just works. I admit to other reviewers using TRENDnet to set up a wireless access point in a home or office where security can be an issue. Almost perfect for my purposes. My only criticism relates to the power supply: the power supply must have standard US/Japan-only pin headers (it has fixed US/Japan-only tabs); and the power connector on TRENDnet itself should use a near-universal mini-USB, so even if you forget or lose your dedicated cable, any mini-USB cable will do. Apple products. As said, TrendNET works right out of the box; No setup, configuration or installation is required to make it work. Therefore, it works with any computer, be it PC, Apple, Linux, etc.; If your computer has access to wireless networks, it will work with TrendNET. So it's not entirely true that it "doesn't work with Apple". However, if you want to do anything other than just connect β adjust security settings or firewalls, change wireless network names or IDs, etc., you must do it from your computer. If so, other reviewers who actually tried to install it would be more authoritative.
