Good router in a small package

I travel constantly, mostly abroad, and the wired internet connection in hotel rooms is quite cumbersome to set up. Not to mention small tables crammed with everything from coffeemakers to phones to large table lamps and anything else the hotel sees fit to place on them. or lying on the bed while working, checking and writing emails is a big plus. My colleague carries around an old 3G router that works great for him, but I was looking for something slim and compact. I found the TTRENDnet…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • No instructions

Almost Perfect Best in Computers & Accessories

My laptop's built-in Ethernet port never worked properly. I used an ethernet pc card to plug it in and get a working ethernet connection, but I managed to break the pins in the slot and it stopped working too. But the WiFi connection has always worked fine, so as long as I'm in the hotel. with free wifi access in the room, no worries. Unfortunately, many hotels only have wired Ethernet in the rooms. So I accidentally connected to these TRENDnet networks. I thought it would be difficult to set…

Excellent iron but only so-so instructions.

This works great once you get it working. I'm pretty good with computers but have spent too much time setting them up for it. If you don't care about security, you can use it out of the box, but I didn't want to do that when traveling. As mentioned earlier, you need to go to the admin menu and enable WPA2 for this device. I found that some advanced defaults are incompatible with my other hardware. For example, the default device only works with other "N" wireless devices instead of working…

I have bought two travel routers and am very impressed with their capabilities. The two use cases I recommend are: 1. A Wi-Fi network for your hotel room. I travel a lot and am frustrated with the poor Wi-Fi signal I get in many rooms - I rarely get a good signal. This travel router connects to the wired internet in my room and then allows me to connect my iPhone, iPad and computer wirelessly. All with a strong signal! Also, I don't have to argue with the front desk staff at the checkout when…

Exactly what the traveler needs.

How many times have I been to a hotel and have been scolded for either "one device per room” or "cable only” or "sorry, but the signal strength in your room is low.” After my recent experiences abroad with WiFi problems, I decided to look for a small travel router. I've spent a lot of time in hotels. Good internet occasionally takes the error out of the equation: This device is a complete Wi-Fi router with the same security and features as the devices I have at home and recommend to others for…

Internet cable was bad - Worked after about an hour of messing around.

When I first turned it on, the LAN LED only blinked once when I plugged in the included RJ46 cable. Then I found that if I pressed hard on it when I plugged it in, the light would start working, just a little bit. I plugged in an old RJ45 cable and the LAN light was on all the time. It would be hard to understand unless I had an old cable to try. The instructions are not very good. It took me maybe an hour or two of trial and error to get it working as the primary wireless node. I had to do a…

Great little router!

I bought it to use when I was at the hotel for a conference. The room I was in had a terrible "workspace" and wired internet only. Not only did this allow me to work from my bed, but it also allowed me to share a single internet connection with the person I was sharing a room with. I have a netbook, so the installation CD that came with the router isn't suitable, so I couldn't test the one-button connection feature. However, the router was connected and worked for five minutes. Cloning my MAC…
