Excellent 60% keyboard!

Overall this is a great product, a stark change from a traditional non-mechanical wireless keyboard. Very happy with the purchase and the product in general. It's very responsive and I've noticed a definite improvement when gaming - even typing this review is more fun with Razer's Red Linear Optical Switches! However, I had a few flaws with mine and had to request an exchange - this is likely to be the exception as I have been very happy with my Razer Mamba wireless mouse and have heard generally positive reviews of Razer products. If you came here and were wondering if you should buy one, I would suggest buying it if it fits the needs of your mechanical and/or 60% keyboard. For those interested in my problem/experience, read on. The first time I used the keyboard, I noticed that the "U" key was backlit in white instead of the RGB backlight I set up in Synapse (tried to check a few backlight settings). I haven't been able to isolate the issue completely, but I've mostly noticed it while playing Apex Legends. I disabled all game lighting effects so it doesn't sync with games so I'm not sure what the problem is. After booting/waking up my PC, the keyboard is fine, or if the keyboard wakes up after a timeout (set to timeout after 5 minutes). I noticed that too when I played Warzone the next day. My other issue was a bit more serious but less "serious": 3 keycaps were partially opaque when backlit - a very egregious quality control issue that shouldn't happen in a product at this price point. The letter "e" on the "esc" key, "b" on the "tab" key, and "p" on the "caps" key had black spots that blocked the passage of light. I removed the Esc keycap and saw the black plastic in the corner stuck under the white/transparent cover (there is a transparent/white layer under the thin black top of the button to let the letters/numbers/symbols show through) . while the edges are made of thicker black plastic). I've included a picture of the underside of the problem caps. I tried to gently squeeze the black plastic to avoid breaking the cap, but it wouldn't budge. The "Tab" and "Cap" keys have a completely chipped off square transparent/white cover. I'm not sure how this leads to a blocked light, unless the clear/white cover scatters light, but it looks a little different than the "esc" key defect. I ended up speaking to Razer support and they told me I needed to open an exchange with a reseller. Not the answer I was hoping for, but I wasn't quite sure what to even expect (sending me 3 new keycaps seems prohibitively expensive and doesn't seem like such an effective solution, especially when the lighting is at "U" is saved). An exchange with Revain has already been confirmed and we will send the defective one back as soon as possible. All in all, seemingly minor issues, but disappointing given the price and the general reputation of this brand.

Pros
  • Faster than older mechanical switches: Razer optical switches use light actuation to register keystrokes at the speed of light (30% shorter actuation distance than other 1.5mm click switches), with satisfying click feedback
Cons
  • Can I settle for the newer one first Choose model
