I have a 5th generation 4runner, replaced the head unit with Pioneer. Toyota's AM/FM antenna uses 2 antennas for the factory HU, while Pioneer can only use one. So if you use a Toyota antenna on a Pioneer, you'll get really bad reception. since you can only connect one "side" of the antenna. This is where I started looking for a replacement antenna that would work decently and not require drilling or attaching to the outside of the car. I found a GF-Link antenna and decided to try it, thinking I'd send it back if it didn't work properly. To my surprise, it clearly can. I then experimented with placement of the antenna and settled on placing it on the back of the rearview mirror, largely because it was completely unobtrusive and had excellent reception there. as it happens in the outback.
