Holy Broken Ball Joints Batman, this thing is a monster. If you're tired of your old snap-on pansy or IR air hammer, look no further than Revain's Top Tools. Sure, you could save money and keep getting frustrated while confiscated parts make fun of your overpriced price. Or you could step on the plate with the CP717 and blow those rusty nuggets in Jiffy Lube on the road. I have used an infrared pneumatic hammer for many years. Also tried what is supposedly the best Snap On Hammer out there for a couple of weeks to see how well it works. While both are good air hammers, nothing I have owned, used or borrowed can compare to Big Nastier here. This will beat pretty much everything in view. It saves so much time on daily tasks. Makes suspension work much easier. Even if you're working with an old rusty poop, you can't afford not to buy this tool. If you already own a pneumatic hammer, you'll want to keep it when you buy this one. Because this is too overloaded for certain tasks. He can and will literally destroy things. CP717 looks like Thor and his hammer. Sometimes you don't need Thor, you might just need Rocky (like before all the training at the beginning of the movie). So keep your old weapon in your arsenal. The trigger has a really good pull so you don't have to go all "full throttle" if you don't want to. But it can quickly get out of control if you don't have a steady hand. You need hearing protection and eye protection. The air hammer itself isn't that loud, but it hits so hard that after a few seconds the sound can become unbearable. Also, wear goggles as the shrapnel generated by Thor will do some serious damage. Made this mistake on first use. I was lucky but scared the shit out of me. So be smart and wear protective gear. While we may have Thor's strength, we certainly take more damage than he does. If you're trying to decide between this hammer and the Astro 4980, I'd go with the CP. Astro is just a copy of CP. I'm not saying it's a bad tool. Eric Oh swears by it. However, Astro instruments tend to be of lower quality. Not bad quality, just smaller than SR. That is of course my opinion. But when I buy such a tool online, I have to think about the warranty or repair process. Since I can't just go to the store or wait for my tool truck guy to come over and fix my CP or Astro. I'd rather have something with a better reputation for durability. And the last thing I will add. . Don't buy cheap Revain air hammer chisels and bits. You are very fragile and can crush and blind one of your peers or take a piece of your flesh and send it to the moon. Only buy 0.498 CP bits. They were specially crafted for the unholy power of the 717th. I've used this hammer quite a bit and the CP bits are holding up pretty well. By that I mean they don't break. They wear out like any other chisel and need to be refreshed from time to time. But at least they are "safe". I love this air hammer. Too bad I didn't buy it many years ago. You will love it too. I didn't bother getting a keyless chuck for it. I don't think it's necessary. Once you get used to the spring detent, it doesn't matter anymore. If you have a keyless chuck, be sure to secure the setscrews.
