Review on ๐Ÿ”— Enhanced Control and Connectivity: Linksys AC1750 Wi-Fi Wireless Dual-Band+ Gigabit Router (EA6500) by Dmitriy Kingsley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A lot of pluses, but one big minus!

The AC1750 is a good entry-level 802.11AC dual-band router (2.4GHz and 5GHz). As I was looking at the purchase, there were a few things that stood out to me the most. Range, speed, easy setup and dual-band performance. So I'll try to cover everyone in the review. Range - I installed the router on the top shelf on the first floor of my home, which is about 3300 feet. I get a 2.4 GHz signal (3 levels) throughout the house. and good in the back and front gardens. That's the good part and better than expected/needed. Unfortunately, the 5GHz band is not that good. I can get a signal as long as I stay in the center of the house, but if I wander away from the center, the signal quickly disappears. There is no 5 GHz signal outside the home. I have to say I was expecting it to cover at least the entire first floor and most of the second. I would give 2 stars for range just because the 2.4 range is better than my old router. Speed. If you can get a 5GHz signal, that's cool. I just ran a speed test and had 61MB download and 12MB upload over wifi. Version 2.4 had 48 million downloads and 10 million downloads. Really good considering my old router was at 32 and 9. Quite a speed boost. Theoretically, 450 Mbit/s in the 2.4 GHz band and 1300 Mbit/s in the 5 GHz band should be achievable via the 5 antennas of the router. But theoretical and real life are very different, as you can see. Considering the actual acceleration I experienced, this is 5 stars for speed. Attitude. It comes with a CD that will walk you through the setup. When I say walk, I mean crawl. My 70 year old mother was able to get through to me with just 1 or 2 calls. So it's a little tedious for me, but great for most beginners. The entire setup process, from connecting the router to my DSL modem to connecting my Macbook Pro to the SSID, took exactly two minutes. Few consumer routers are as powerful as they make setup so easy. A unique feature of the AC1750 is its easy setup and flexible control options. The cloud as a management console raises the bar for router management, and that feature is great. The setting is definitely 5 stars. Double the power. The big plus of this router is that you can set up a 5GHz network to only broadcast 11.ac. Speeds are much faster in the 5GHz range, and 11.ac is the fastest technology available, so you can put a network aside and never slow down. I think that's why the 5GHz speed was so much better. in the speed test The disadvantage is that slower devices N and below only connect with 2.4 GHz. But I felt the speed was worth the compromise. You can of course set it up differently. Finally, 5 stars for everything except the 5GHz band. Note that 5GHz will never reach 2.4, but should be more than 25-30 feet from the router. So 4 stars overall. I hope you find it useful!

Pros
  • Easy setup: Simple installation requires no CD
Cons
  • Long wait
