I just received this umbrella and took it outside because I live in the desert and it's 105 degrees outside right now. It will protect you from the sun, but it's quite heavy and very hot under the umbrella. It seemed like I was walking in a cone of heat and I could feel the warmth of my hand on the underside of the umbrella. When I took the umbrella off I didn't feel any heat, except of course the sun on my head, but I didn't feel like my whole body was wrapped in warmth. It is also a very heavy umbrella. It is compact but still weighs a lot and would add extra weight to my luggage or shoulder bag. It's also a little difficult to hold and walk around. It's a short hold as some others have said and I can see the fatigue setting in quickly. And I'm not a fragile person. I used to use the lightweight compact stick umbrella you use to keep out the rain and in the past they have worked well against the sun as well. I just need to find mine, it's in the closet somewhere.
