Review on πŸ”© Culligan UB-1 Mounting Bracket Kit, Including Screws by Eric Temple

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Significant modification required when using solder or snap-in terminals

I received this bracket, the only one I could find to securely mount my Watts HD-LD filter to the wall, so when I did changed the filter I didn't put any emphasis on the plumbing fixtures. Both brazed and highly recommended push-fit fittings will not fit fully into the filter housing even with this fitting, leaving about a 3/16 inch gap on each side of the filter. This keeps the filter on the wall but mostly wobbles like loose/letter paper does. You will need some almost impossible to find shims or similar variable shims (1.5" - 2" shims with at least 1.125" bore). With a fully equipped workshop and too much time wasted I was able to make 6 of these shims and the bracket/ the filter is now rock solid. The same problem can occur with Culligan or other filter housings with solder or snap connections. Culligan should be aware of this issue and provide shims/gaps. Also, Watts must supply the bracket and shims/gaskets with the HD-LD Both Culligan and Watts make good products, but unfortunately their views on how their customers actually use them are firmly rooted in the 20th century.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • There are shortcomings
