After using some high quality lights and building them by hand, I was skeptical about buying an LED light without color and intensity adjustment for my 2.5 gallon Pico Reef. The only thing I could do was adjust the light higher or lower. So I started (and still work) with a light source 17 inches above the waterline. So far the results have been amazing. Corals that lost their color (under controlled, more expensive lights) have regained their glow. Corals that have retreated come back to life and grow, all in just 2 weeks. So while more expensive lamps can be infinitely tuned, I've also learned that you can easily and quickly shift the spectrum out of the ideal range. The undeniable aspect of the ABI 12W Tuna Blue, other than the height above the waterline, makes it easy for a basic reef tank - which was my goal with the Pico reef.
