Used unit sent as new

UPDATE April 12, 2021: I was so happy with it in our freezer that when we bought a second freezer I bought another unit to control its temperature. Unfortunately, instead of the new device I paid for, I received unsealed packaging and a device with batteries inserted. Instructions were included, but there were also instructions for a completely different monitor from a different manufacturer. It works as far as I can tell so I'm not returning it, but potential buyers should be warned about this sketchy and unethical practice. works sometimes. A remote thermometer seemed like a good idea, but knowing how low temperatures kill batteries, I wanted a device with a sensor to collect data from on my Android phone. This seemed to fit the bill. The device itself is exactly what I wanted. It just connected to my phone and the app started receiving data as many times as I wanted. The magnetic back is attached to the freezer and the probe is inside the freezer. Whenever I open the app, it collects data from the device. It works well too, although there are floors and walls between my usual phone location and the freezer, which made me concerned about getting data onto my phone. The app is not useless. It shows the battery level, which is helpful so I know when the battery needs to be replaced. I can name the thermometer (which would be nice because since it works well I plan to buy another one to put outside) and set the frequency at which it saves data (I have the 30 minute option used because it is not similar). temperature change in the freezer). quickly). It also displays humidity, but that doesn't matter for my purpose. With the chart option I can easily see the last 12 hours of recorded tempos. But that's all. There is a temperature and humidity alert feature and I can set the allowable range, but I only get an alert when I log into the app. Once in the app I can see if the temperature is out of range or not; What I want is an alert letting me know I need to log into the app to see what the problem is. The chart option defaults to showing the last 6 hours and there is no guidance in the manual on how to see anything else. (If you click on the calendar on the sensor history page, you can choose to view weekly, monthly, or even yearly data.) All saved data is lost when the sample rate or battery is changed; You can export the data to save it, but I don't think you can load the saved data back into the app so you have a continuous display of the data. Verdict: It does most of what I wanted, I can see if there's an option to thaw our frozen food, and it gives me useful temperature data. But it could have been a lot better.
