As others have noted, this plate adaptor does not effectively make a non-induction pan into one suitable for cooking. As an experiment, I tested 2 identical pans with identical volumes of water to test how long it took to boil the water. The pan over the gas range and a medium setting quickly started to boil the water. The pan over the adapter plate never reached boiling after 5 minutes.I used a remote thermometer to test the temperatures of the plate and pan surface, and both remained well below 212F after 5 minutes.Lastly, I tested an induction pan with the same volume of water sitting on the adapter plate. This did quickly heat the water. Of particular interest were the temperature readings that showed the induction pan surface to be much hotter than the surface of the adapter plate. From this, I conclude that the adapter plate does NOT HEAT UP WITH MAGNETIC INDUCTION and that the induction-rated pan was doing all the heating.Lastly, the instruction for this plate indicated the handle was foldable, whilst the actual plate handle is riveted to the plate. While I haven't tried it, I think this plate may be useful as a heat diffuser and support for glass containers over a gas flame, rather like the kit used over a bunsen burner to allow heating of glass beakers in labs.I suspect this plate was NOT DESIGNED to aid induction heating for older pans, but some marketing wiz thought this could increase market use. It seems like all the offerings are similar and similarly likely ineffective.IMO this is a waste of money if that is the idea. It would be far better to buy new pots and skillets if this is your desire, as the US will phase out new gas appliances in homes as fossil fuels are replaced as energy sources. The 2 attached photos show:1. The experiment setup with a regular stainless steel pan that has an aluminum base with a copper surface that I regularly use for cooking on a gas range, with the adapter plate below it, and a Duxforf induction unit to heat the water. I used the boil water setting that indicated 460F as the inducted temperature. Next to the induction device is the remote thermometer to take readings.2. A comparison of the enclosed instructions showing the adapter plate has a folding handle compared to the actual plate.3. As with much manufactured in, and shipped from, China, the product is clearly not a retail item suited to the US as it does not come in a box, but just in a plastic bag.
