Cedar Shoe Trees - my new review

Good quality men's shoes are expensive. It pays to take good care of them. Unfortunately, most men do not give their shoes the care that they need. Yes, they brush and shine them. But equally important is to keep them stretched when not in use. A good fitting shoe tree will do that.Shoes get bent and wrinkled as you walk. Those wrinkles will stay on unless you apply a slight stretching tension to the leather. A properly adjusted shoe tree will add the right amount of tension to work out those wrinkles. These trees are made of cedar. Cedar might help keep insects away. They will also freshen the shoe and the wood will absorb some of the moisture from the leather. Most shoes are disposable. Meaning we do not send them to the cobbler to get them repaired when the sole wears out. But even those type of shoes will benefit from a shoe tree. They will look nicer for a lot longer. Any leather shoe, from an inexpensive Bass Weejun to your expensive Ariat riding boots will look nicer longer, and last longer, if you insert a shoe tree after you take them off.Taking care of leather dress shoes is usually an art passed down from father to son. But alas, in this day of Dockers and Clarkes, that art is no longer taught. You need a brush, cloth, leather soap, wax, and shoe trees to take care of dress shoes. You might also need a black dye for the edge of the sole and some spare laces. Suede shoes will need their own type of brushes, cleaners, and protectors. Riding boots are very expensive and should receive good care as well. The harsh environment of horse stables can quickly cause the stitchings to deteriorate if not taken care of properly.Buy the right size tree for your shoe. Adjust the tension so that it is not too strong, but just enough to straighten the shoes. Clean the shoe and apply wax if the leather starts to dry out. Do not force a shoe tree inside the shoe if the leather is dry and brittle. Clean the shoe and apply a shoe cream first. Wait for the leather to hydrate and become soft again before forcing your shoe tree inside. You do not want to split the leather.Highly recommended
