Review on Canon EOS SLR Camera Lens EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM by Eric Broad

I have four "L" series lenses and the 24-105 is the one that spends the most time with my 60D. The mid-wide-angle to mid-telephoto zoom range certainly makes this one of the most versatile lenses in Canon's "L" series. There are professional reviews from TheDigitalPicture.com and DPReview.com that provide all the technical details, so I won't waste time on that here; My review will simply be my own reasons for buying this lens and why I like it so much. build quality. Just great, as you would expect from an "L" lens. The zoom and focus rings are silky smooth.2. optical quality. Very sharp throughout the zoom range. Not as sharp as my 70-200 f2.8L, probably due to two extra lenses for the image stabilization system (my 70-200 is the non-IS version). Color reproduction and distortion control are excellent.3. Weight and size: Because this lens has image stabilization and a USM focus motor, it's a bit bulky, but the weight isn't objectionable, and the comfortable "feel" of this lens in the hand more than makes up for the weight. 4. Speed: As an f4 lens, it's a notch slower than the 24-70 f2.8L USM, but if you don't need the extra f2.8 depth of field, this lens costs $1,200 less. Conclusion: Put simply, the 24-105 f4.0 IS USM is arguably the most versatile lens in Canon's "L" range. While it's significantly more expensive than "regular" lenses in this size range, if you have a Canon camera body with a resolution greater than 18 megapixels, you're not getting the quality of image resolution from the camera that the sensor can afford though They use a $150 "whale" lens. Another reason to choose the "L" series, even if your current camera is one of Canon's lower-end Rebel models, is that all "L" series lenses use a full-frame EF mount . This means that if you ever decide to upgrade to a Canon full frame camera like the 5D, 6D or 1D, you keep your 'L' series lenses - no need to buy new ones! I have never regretted buying this lens and would highly recommend it to anyone with a Canon EF or EF-S SLR.
