Great for 1080p videos, dies at 4K (that's 710)

MSI is one of the graphics card manufacturers. Their quality is great, their cards work well, and their afterburner software is second to none. Let's get one thing right out of the box: the GT 710 is the GT 710. If you're looking for a gaming card, even just for playing Windows Store games, look at at least the 730, or better yet, the 750 Ti for entry-level users -Gaming. After that, let's talk about reasonable expectations for the 710. The goal of the 710 is to provide an old computer without digital video. Output via HDMI connection. It is intended to complement the PC with integrated graphics 2006 and enable it to work with modern displays. I would expect that if a graphics card supports a certain resolution, be it 1080p, 1440p or even 4k, it would be able to smoothly play video at that resolution. I chose this 710 for my HTPC because it supports 4k resolution and I only needed my old PC to stream 4k videos. That's all. And that's where this card let me down. 4k video playback was poor. It was choppy, HDMI audio was intermittent and it wasn't just one source. YouTube, local content, everything looked bad. 1080p was much better, but the 4K display didn't help. The 710's saving grace was that it could stream 1080p video convincingly to a 1080p monitor, and maybe that's really all it's useful for. If that's your use case, and for a lot of people I'm sure it is, then this is a decent and cheap card for you. Mine was sent back. I didn't even bother with overclocking or temperature testing because I just didn't see the need for it. 710 was clearly not enough for my needs.
