Faster and more powerful 10 year old Gateway desktop

I don't usually write reviews but having done quite a bit of research before buying one for an older computer I hope this information will help potential buyers. I was looking for a way to improve the performance of an old Gateway SX2801-01e thin profile desktop computer. The RAM (8 GB) was full, but for some reason the graphics just could not be generated smoothly and without problems. Not for gaming, mind you, but for changing location and streaming videos, as well as opening multiple apps…

Great for 1080p videos, dies at 4K (that's 710)

MSI is one of the graphics card manufacturers. Their quality is great, their cards work well, and their afterburner software is second to none. Let's get one thing right out of the box: the GT 710 is the GT 710. If you're looking for a gaming card, even just for playing Windows Store games, look at at least the 730, or better yet, the 750 Ti for entry-level users -Gaming. After that, let's talk about reasonable expectations for the 710. The goal of the 710 is to provide an old computer without…

Fits like a dream in computer parts

Fits like a dream, works fine, installation is easy on all levels. Installation instructions for the low-profile mount are not included. What you do: Using needle nose pliers, unscrew the long bracket by turning the small screws that you would normally screw a video cable into. Simply pinch the sides of each screw and twist a little (slightly counterclockwise) until it loosens. Keep an eye on your screws and once all four are loose you can easily disconnect the VGA connector (top of main…

Poor performance but works well

reasonably priced for a brand new graphics card. Robust DXVA capabilities for HTPC. Worked great to replace a dying 7600GS in my dad's computer. Very low power consumption. Passive cooling may not be enough for this card if you do a lot of work and have a case with very little airflow. My dad's small form factor computer only ran light games in the 80's. I zipped a thin 40mm silent fan to it and it was easy enough to keep it cool. Now if you play for many hours, the temperature will not rise…

Cheap and works great on my small form factor PC

I need to upgrade the graphics card for a very old compact desktop PC, a 2010 Acer Aspire A3910. This is an entry-level MSI GeForce GT 710 graphics card that fully meets my needs. Here are a few reasons why I chose this particular card over something stronger: - It's relatively cheap. - It has a low profile and only occupies one PCI slot. This is important as my PC has a small form factor (SFF) case with limited space. It uses very little power (20W max) so even the 220W PSU in my PC can handle

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Useless features
