Smells like metal

Ok this is starting to match my shoulder bag but the metallic smell lingers on my skin! I'm only keeping it because it fits and I'll try spraying some clear coat on it to see if that helps. I worry that even if I sweat (in this California heat) it will leave an even stronger odor. It's a shame it has such a smell considering it fits my bag.
