I bought a set two years ago, the last on June 3rd this year. I use them outdoors to provide shade for our plants during the summer months. I have two of the six clips from the first set and five from the second set left. Why? Look at the photos. UV and heat will kill plastic - I know that, so keep them out of direct sunlight (UV). I can't do anything about temperature fluctuations. Cracks around the hinges are somewhat predictable, but the spring breaking through the plastic handle was a surprise. The springs are in my opinion too strong for the type of plastic used - ie. cheap. I will not order these again. Metal would be better for my application, but I have to put up with rust. I think I found a rock and an anvil. [UPDATE 7/7/19] I just lost two more new ones. hinge failure. Obviously the spring is too strong for the plastic. I'm not sure I wouldn't have to open my jaws wide if they could last longer. They've been up and running for less than five weeks. I will not buy these again.
