Not working with Roku TV?

I got my parents a 49 inch TCL 4K Roku TV for Christmas. I have two of these 3ft HDMI cables to connect a component to HDMI converter for their DVD player and to connect a Yamaha YAS-207 soundbar to the system so I have ARC+CEC control. First I connected the component converter. I did not receive anything. Not found at all. I thought these things might be finicky and it might be the converter. Moved to the soundbar. Nothing. Not found. Strange. So I tried a second cable. No signal. I finally dug out the 2 year old Revain Basics HDMI I had in my electronics bag. VIOLA! Both the soundbar and the converted connected well. Later I even brought the broken Mediabridge cables into my house and hooked up my DVD player to my receiver. The perfect signal. DVD straight to TV. The perfect signal. I'm not sure what's wrong with them. They clearly work. They just don't work with every installation. My first thought was that there's something odd about the Roku TV and maybe it's really picky about the cables it accepts. The more I think about it, the more unlikely it seems. Either an HDMI cable works or it doesn't. As long as it's rated for the signal being transmitted, it should work unless it's defective. Then I thought the Roku TV was the only 4K panel available for testing. The cables work great on every 1080p device I've connected. Now I'm leaning towards not carrying a proper 4k signal with this cable. However, this doesn't make much sense since none of the sources I connected were 4k. Despite all of this, the other cables I've tried have all worked so far, so I can say with confidence that the Mediabridge cable is the problem. although I can't say why. So they have to be returned.
