The filter is easy (if a bit tricky) to set up. It was difficult and a little confusing to learn how to remove just part of the connecting tube and not remove the entire cover for cleaning. It can be a bit tricky to start, but there is a lid in the filter cap that you can open and fill with water. The hose can bend (it's a rubber hose) and block the flow, which is frustrating and restricts the placement of your filter. All of this can eventually be settled. The only feature that really let me down was that the "variable flow" is just a poorly designed dummy valve in the water supply and return lines. That doesn't change the flow at all. Note, however, that I'm giving it four stars. This is a good filter and it works consistently well. I just wish variable flow was actually motor/impeller speed control and finer tuning (and would have worked).
