Review on American Shifter 59961 Automatic Transmission by Stephen Schmidt

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not as good as I expected

The shifter was correct as ordered but the shift quality is terrible. Not as nice and smooth as I had hoped. The "Luxury Shift Knob" is cheap plastic junk. The sideshift mechanism binds and does not work smoothly even after greasing. The button cable is stuck in the shifter even after greasing. Not happy at all. I almost returned it even though I only paid $105 for it, which was a steal for a new switch in a $300 box. There were two handfuls of extra nuts and bolts that were loose in the American Shifter box and fell out all over the place when I took them out of the brown Amazon box. You have to search the internet for instructions and they are terrible at it. Not detailed at all so lots of trial and error. A handful of extra fasteners in the box multiplies the confusion factor. The assembly isn't actually that bad if you're mechanically inclined, but the instructions require A LOT of work. Dissatisfied customer. Found a problem and had to make some relief cuts in the final drive arms. That solved the binding problem.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Hard to tell
